Alessandro Sanches Pereira is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer and Researcher at Curtin University’s Sustainability Policy Institute (CUSP) and President and Executive Director of Instituto 17 (i17), a Brazilian nonprofit operating across 15 countries with over 80 institutional partnerships.

He serves on the UN Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition (CEET), co-chaired by the UNIDO Director General and Jeffrey Sachs, and was a Lead Author on Chapter 5 of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), Working Group III. His research and policy work sit at the intersection of circular economy, waste-to-energy, biogas, and decarbonisation pathways in the Global South. He holds a PhD in Engineering from UNICAMP and has worked with institutions including KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the UN, with over 1,200 citations on Google Scholar.
